Winglets are wing tip devices which reduce wing vortex concentration, thereby reducing drag. Correctly sized and shaped, they generate much smaller wing tip vortices than straight wing aircraft or conventional winglet systems. The Blended Winglet features a large radius and a smooth chord variation in a transition section. This allows optimum aerodynamic loading and avoids drag producing vortex concentrations. Highly blended winglets have demonstrated greater effectiveness over the same size conventional winglets with angular transitions.
